|The Pruitt F3 carotid shunt is made with a new, more flexible material that is resistant to kinking, is color coded for easy identification and has 10% increased flow over the original Pruitt-Inahara carotid shunt. The Pruitt F3 carotid shunt is secured in the vessel using occlusion balloons that eliminate the need for clamps. This reduces vessel trauma and allows for the use of a small incision, minimal dissection and a short arteriotomy. Plaque endpoints can be visualized because the balloon holds the artery open during the procedure. This is especially important with high stenoses, when clamps cannot be used.
